The Cosmic Dawn Center(DAWN) at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for up totwoassistant professor positionswithin galaxy formation and early evolution. DAWN is a Center of Excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation (DNRF) and is located in the Copenhagen area at the Niels Bohr Institute (NBI), University of Copenhagen and the Space division of the Danish Technical University (DTU Space). In addition, DAWN has several associates at major research institutes across Europe, North America, and Australia. DAWN brings together experts in all aspects of early Universe research and is deeply involved in major existing and upcoming surveys with JWST and HST (e.g. COSMOS3D, FRESCO, COSMOS-Web, MoM, ALT, RUBIES, BEACON, and CLUTCH), ALMA (e.g. CHAMPS, PHOENIX, NOIR), and Euclid (e.g. Cosmic Dawn Survey of the deep fields). The successful candidates will contribute to DAWN’s research program on galaxy formation and early galaxy evolution, with a particular focus on the Cosmic Dawn Survey. This deep, wide-field imaging and spectroscopic programme targets 50 deg² of the sky with Euclid near-infrared observations, complemented by matching-depth optical imaging from Subaru and CFHT and spectroscopy from Keck. The Survey provides an unprecedented multi-wavelength dataset for studying how galaxies assemble their stellar mass across cosmic history and how their evolution is shaped by the underlying dark matter structure. Candidates are expected to work with large imaging and spectroscopic datasets from Euclid and associated facilities, including the extraction of photometry and morphology for large numbers of galaxies, redshift and physical-parameter estimation, catalog building, and statistical analysis of galaxy populations. The positions offer opportunities to bridge observations and theory through the interpretation of survey data in the context of models of galaxy formation and evolution. Duties will include proposal writing, planning and execution of observations, data reduction, and the scientific exploitation and dissemination of results from the Cosmic Dawn Survey. The assistant professor’s duties will primarily include research, including obligations with regard to publication/scientific communication and research-based teaching with associated examination obligations within astronomy. To a limited extent this may also include performance of other duties. Assessment of applicants Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered. Further information on the Department can be found on .
