Air Conditioning Technician

Well Smart Investment Holding (Bris) Pty Ltd – Lindeman Island QLD Location: Lindeman Island, Whitsunday Islands, Queensland, Australia Position Summary The Air Conditioning Technician will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of HVAC systems, refrigeration units (including kitchen cold rooms and freezers), and exhaust fan systems across the entire island resort. This role requires a strong understanding of both simple and complex control logic management for these systems. The successful candidate will be a proactive, problem‑solving individual capable of working independently and as part of a team in a unique island environment. Key Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance, servicing, and repairs on all resort HVAC systems, including split systems, ducted systems, VRF/VRV systems, and chilled water plants. Diagnose and rectify faults in refrigeration cycles, electrical components, and control systems. Conduct refrigerant recovery, evacuation, and charging in accordance with ARC regulations. Monitor and optimise HVAC system performance for energy efficiency and comfort. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities and refrigerant usage. Install, maintain, and repair commercial kitchen cold rooms, freezers, ice machines, and other refrigeration equipment. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to temperature control, leaks, and component failures. Ensure all refrigeration systems operate effectively to maintain food safety standards. Exhaust Fan System Management: Install, maintain, and repair kitchen exhaust hoods and associated fan systems. Ensure proper ventilation and air quality in kitchen and other designated areas. Clean and maintain filters and ductwork as required. Control Logic Management: Demonstrated experience in understanding, troubleshooting, and programming control logic for HVAC, refrigeration, and exhaust fan systems (e.g., BMS, DDC, PLC systems). Optimize system sequences of operation for efficiency and reliability. Identify and resolve issues related to sensor calibration, actuator performance, and network communication. Assist with other general maintenance tasks as required, demonstrating a willingness to be a versatile member of the island team. Adhere to all resort safety policies and procedures. Participate in on‑call roster for emergency repairs if required. Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including parts used, time spent, and issues identified. Provide regular reports on the status of equipment and maintenance activities. Skills and Experience Minimum of 5 years' post‑apprenticeship experience as a qualified Air Conditioning / Refrigeration Tradesperson. Proven experience with the installation, maintenance, and repair of simple and complex HVAC systems . Demonstrable experience with the maintenance and repair of kitchen cold rooms and freezers . Solid experience with the maintenance and repair of exhaust fan systems . Demonstrated experience and strong understanding of control logic management for HVAC and refrigeration systems (e.g., BMS, DDC, PLC). Current Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) Refrigerant Handling Licence (Split System or higher). Current Electrical Licence (Restricted Electrical Licence minimum, Unrestricted preferred). Current Australian Driver's Licence. Experience working in remote locations or island environments. Trade qualification in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Experience with energy management systems. Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team. A proactive attitude and strong work ethic. Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks in varying weather conditions. #J-18808-Ljbffr
