What you’ll do: Based in Brisbane with regular travel to PNG, the Senior Instrumentation, Controls & Electrical Engineer will provide expert support across electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. You will drive strategies to improve plant and well reliability, mitigate obsolescence, and enhance equipment performance. Acting as SME and technical authority, you’ll identify risks, eliminate defects, and deliver engineering solutions that make a real impact on operations across international sites. Key Responsibilities Ensure adherence to Santos Management System (SMS), Santos Delegation of Authority (DOA), and corporate governance and safety requirements. Provide technical advice and support on electrical, instrumentation, and control engineering for field operations and maintenance teams. Improve and optimise E&I maintenance strategies and methodologies using continuous improvement and reliability-based approaches (RCM, FMECA) to enhance equipment reliability. Develop medium to long-term strategies addressing obsolescence, key equipment vulnerabilities, life cycle management, and EEHA inspection/defect management in line with AS/NZS 60079. Develop, review, and approve maintenance procedures to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operation of equipment. Lead investigations of serious to major E&I events, producing final reports for inclusion in the Process Safety Management system. Conduct proactive technical surveillance on E&I equipment, identifying bad actors & anomalies and implementing corrective actions. Collaborate with engineering and project teams on production replacement, upgrade, and improvement initiatives. Provide technical expertise, governance, and oversight for the EEHA management system, including inspections, dossier management, equipment registers, and IS calculations. Raise, manage, and close Management of Change (MOC) items related to reliability improvements. Mentor junior and graduate E&I engineers, supporting development of PNG national engineers. Provide E&I engineering support for emergency action plans resulting from critical site events. Champion a strong safety culture by implementing and promoting HSE and security policies to maintain a safe working environment. What you’ll bring: Proven track record of over a decade in electrical and instrumentation engineering within upstream oil & gas or related industries (engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance/reliability). Strong knowledge of Electrical, Instrumentation, and Controls engineering fundamentals and reliability work processes (RCA, FMECA). Experience with reliability-based methodologies (RCM, PM optimisation), electrical power generation, distribution, high voltage transmission lines, and hazardous area installations (AS60079) Competent in installation and maintenance of wide range of E&I equipment including generators, transformers, switchgear as well as instruments covering different types of transmitters and valves. Experience troubleshooting, scoping, supervising, and working with Honeywell safety systems and Allen-Bradley PLCs. Competent in CMMS/ERP systems (SAP preferred). Consistent with Santos Technical Authority Level 3 (TA3) minimum. Eligible for RPEQ (e.g., Chartered Engineer). Bachelor’s degree in electrical or Instrumentation Engineering Advanced knowledge of protection coordination, electrical arc flash, process control instrumentation, and installation/repair of electrical equipment. Technical expertise in Functional Safety, SIL, LOPA, and Bowties. Functional Safety Engineer (TUV). CMRP or CRE.
