About the role This vacancy sits within a practice in our commercial disputes team with a focus on professional and financial services litigation including claims against professionals such as lawyers, accountants, auditors and trustees and involves acting for insurers, professional and financial services firms and other commercial clients. In this role you will provide exceptional legal advice to clients, conduct defence as required and appear in court. You will also contribute to the development of junior lawyers through supervision and coaching, and support the partners in building the practice by identifying and acting on new client opportunities. What does the role involve? You will provide essential support to a team of senior practitioners and take on meaningful responsibility for the conduct of matters. You will work with a high level of autonomy while receiving guidance where required. Your responsibilities will include: Run commercial litigation matters (with appropriate supervision) in the Supreme and Federal Courts, and assist on matters in the Court of Appeal Conduct legal research on complex issues and preparing discrete advice Advise clients and assist in defence and appearance work Support corporate policy holders seeking to maximise recovery on disputed insurance claims Participate in business development and client relationship activities, including attending client meetings where required and assisting with pitches, tenders and marketing materials Contribute to the development of junior team members through informal mentoring, knowledge‑sharing and matter debriefs Contribute to the firm's learning and development program in your area of specialty Contribute to knowledge and learning resources, including precedents Manage finances including assisting with estimates and preparation of invoices; collection of fees as directed. We are looking for a commercial litigator who ideally has experience working in a similar firm on similar matters. You should be practical and proactive in your approach in addition to demonstrating strong problem‑solving skills. A high level of client service is expected as are excellent organisation, written and oral communication skills. You must have a commercial litigation background, ideally with some experience in insurance litigation and/or insurance coverage. This role may appeal to someone who has dealt with professional indemnity. The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years post‑qualification experience in commercial litigation.
