Inspector (Animal Welfare) - Central Coast Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of animals? Step up and make an impact today Based on the central coast, in this field‑based role you will work within the inspectorate team, taking the lead on regional cruelty investigations and proactive enforcement covering the central coast and Northern Beaches region in New South Wales. This role is initially offered as a two‑year fixed term contract, with the opportunity to be ongoing. Subject to continued funding. Key Responsibilities Investigate animal welfare and cruelty complaints recorded in the animal welfare management system. Take enforcement action against non‑compliant owners, including preparing matters for prosecution. Educate the community on responsible animal care and the requirements of relevant legislation. Remove animals that are at immediate or potential risk, ensuring their safety and welfare. Provide accurate assessments and appropriate responses in emergency situations. Communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders regarding seized animals and related matters. Interpret and apply the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979, offering accurate advice and guidance. Undertake proactive patrols and audits to detect and prevent animal welfare offences. Conduct thorough investigations and prepare detailed reports and briefs of evidence. Attend court and provide evidence as required. Deliver education to community members on responsible pet ownership and appropriate animal treatment. Support and assist animal owners in addressing welfare concerns and improving the wellbeing of animals in their care. About You Proven experience enforcing legislation, gathering evidence, and presenting matters in court, including taking accurate factual statements. Strong report‑writing skills and the ability to document investigations clearly and professionally. Skilled in conflict resolution with the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations. Experience in animal care, husbandry and handling (including horses and livestock) is highly desirable. Background in animal welfare or law enforcement, or equivalent experience. Certificate IV in Government Investigations (or willingness to obtain). Current driver’s licence and Firearms Licence. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with the community. Strong time‑management abilities and resilience when working under pressure. Ability to work independently with confidence while also contributing effectively within a team. Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Companion Animals Act, and applicable Codes of Practice.
