Pilbara ISOCo Limited is the government appointed independent system operator for the North-West Interconnected System (NWIS), an electricity grid serving mining, industrial, commercial and residential loads in Western Australia's Pilbara region. The functions of the Pilbara ISOCo are set out in Part 8A of the Electricity Industry Act 2004 and the Pilbara Network Rules (PNR). Among other things, the Pilbara ISOCo is responsible for maintaining and improving the security of the power system and facilitating network coordination and planning. The Company was registered in June 2021 as an incorporated not‑for‑profit public company limited by guarantee under the Corporations Act 2001. The current members of Pilbara ISOCo are the three interconnected registered network services providers – APA, Horizon Power and Rio Tinto. Benefits of Working with ISO Employment Type: Permanent Full Time Close working team with easy access to management and industry experts Pivotal role in supporting the secure, reliable and efficient progression of Western Australia's energy transformation in the Pilbara Hybrid & dynamic working arrangements Based in Perth's central business district, close to major energy industry participants, and within walking distance to the train and bus stations Professional development via projects, industry networks and events As Senior Engineer, System Operations you will work with the Pilbara ISOCo engineering team, external consultants, Network Service Providers (NSPs), independent power producers and large consumers to ensure the Pilbara ISOCo fulfils its obligations under the PNR in a variety of functions relating to the secure and reliable operation of the NWIS. With oversight from the Principal, System Operations, the role will provide exposure to a diverse range of critical operational functions. Key Responsibilities Facilitate outage coordination through system coordination meetings, reviewing outage plans and risk assessments, resolving scheduling conflicts and associated reporting. Lead investigations into power system incidents to identify causal factors and pursue changes to protocols, procedures and operational practises with a view to improving system security and reliability. Manage the delivery of power system studies, lead competitive procurement processes, and conduct stakeholder consultation for the procurement of Contingency Reserve and Frequency Control Essential System Services (ESS). Undertake energy balancing and settlement (EBAS) of ESS costs between network participants, identify and implement improvements to EBAS engine and related processes, review and update EBAS pricing parameters. Identify, develop and consult on system constraints and constraint rules. Spearhead the development of guidance documentation for external stakeholders relating to the above functions and processes. Work closely with stakeholders to ensure Pilbara-focused solutions. Assist the Principal, System Operations in reporting to the executive, Board and Minister for Energy (as required) on System Operations matters. Identify regime improvements and develop rule and procedure changes. Support the company's participation in PNR and technical rules reform. About the Applicant You are a professional electrical engineer with experience and knowledge of transmission system planning standards and operations, familiar with risk management processes, and a basic understanding of energy markets and essential system services. Candidates must possess Australian work authorisation as this role requires eligibility to work in Australia. You have a demonstrated ability to work independently and can develop practical and pragmatic solutions. You communicate clearly, efficiently and professionally, through written and verbal media and with stakeholders across all levels. You are able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences. Qualifications and Experience Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering required Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholdersOpen-minded and self-driven to learn new skills and tools Able to work effectively and harmoniously within a team environment Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite of products, with strong skills in Microsoft Excel Experience in PowerFactory and power system studies is desirable Chartered Professional Engineer with Engineers Australia and/or registration on the National Engineers Register is advantageous but not required Experience Expectations Transmission system planning and design Network control and operations Network incident response and investigations Energy and essential system services markets, network control services At least 5 years of experience as an electrical engineer, in a technical role and within an Australian context, with deep exposure to at least two or more of the above. 5pm on Friday 12 December 2025 or when filled prior. #J-18808-Ljbffr
