Senior Gen AI Software Engineer (Contract) Location: Sydney / Melbourne Transfit is on a mission to build Australia's preeminent Gen AI practice. We are looking for experienced software engineers with deep expertise in generative and agentic AI to join our team in building enterprise‑grade Gen AI solutions for blue chip clients. Key Responsibilities You will lead the design and development of generative AI systems, code enterprise‑grade solutions, and apply deep technical knowledge of representation learning, neural networks, and transformer‑based architectures. You will reason about model behaviour, trade‑offs, and limitations, ensuring solutions are robust and secure. Required Skills & Experience – Professional Software Development 5+ years of enterprise‑grade software development and SDLC experience. Strong programming skills (Python, .Net, Java, React, Typescript, etc.) with automated unit and integration testing. Experience deploying software solutions with enterprise‑grade DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines. Strong requirements analysis, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience delivering software solutions in a banking environment, including fraud detection (a plus). Required Skills & Experience – Generative and Agentic AI Deep, first‑principles understanding of how modern generative AI works, with experience designing, building, and operating solutions from base models and open‑source tooling. Proven experience selecting, adapting, and optimising LLMs and SLMs for specific tasks, including working directly with model architectures, tokenisation schemes, and training/inference pipelines. Demonstrated ability to design, develop, and deploy Gen AI applications, models, and pipelines (LLMs, GANs, VAEs, transformer‑based architectures, retrieval‑augmented systems) with a focus on security, observability, explainability, and non‑deterministic testing. Experience building and deploying enterprise‑grade agent‑based architectures and multi‑agent orchestrations. Strong grasp of prompt and system design, fine‑tuning and adaptation techniques, evaluation methodologies, and strategies for managing failure modes such as hallucinations, bias, and safety issues, including the development and implementation of security guardrails. Exposure to AI governance, compliance, and ethical AI frameworks.
