We are seeking Stage 2 or Stage 3 Trainees in Psychiatry to commence for the February 2026 clinical training term. We have positions across the District in Dubbo, Bathurst and Bloomfield Hospital Orange, in Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Services. The main purpose of the role is to ensure provision of safe and high quality clinical treatment and care services, whilst ensuring appropriate balance between clinical and training responsibilities. Must be a current trainee with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). Where you’ll be working Our Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services are a critical part of the care we deliver to our local communities. We are at the forefront in the delivery of rural and remote mental health, drug and alcohol services across a catchment area of 400,000 square kilometres with the regional centres of Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst as hubs to provide services both locally and to our more rural and remote towns. The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to working within a multidisciplinary team to enhance the assessment and management of those under their care utilising a biopsychosociocultural framework that supports integrated mental and physical health care. They will have a passion and commitment to learning, education and professional development within Psychiatry demonstrated by ongoing development in expertise and progression towards attainment of Fellowship competencies of the RANZCP. Across time, the position holder will provide high quality patient care throughout the mental health care continuum, in differing settings and with people across the lifespan. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to improving mental health care for Aboriginal people, and suitable Aboriginal applicants will be given priority in Network allocation. Entry to the position is suitable for doctors who have successfully completed Stage 1 of RANZCP training for Stage 2 positions and successfully completed Stage 2 of RANZCP training for Stage 3 positions. Qualifications Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role. Demonstrate empathy and support for patients, with a strong patient-centric and recovery‑oriented approach that is responsive to understanding patient, family and carer needs. Demonstrated ability commensurate with level of training to provide timely, fluent, and tailored written and verbal communication that adapts to the needs of a diverse audience, including patient/s, families and carers, the broader community, and colleagues. Demonstrated ability commensurate with level of training to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including the sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services. Demonstrated ability commensurate with level of training to remain calm and act constructively especially when faced with high pressure situations, unpredictable environments, or significantly different points of view. Demonstrated commitment to continually developing knowledge and clinical skills through supervision and active participation in relevant training and professional development opportunities. Demonstrated ability commensurate with level of training, to initiate, prioritise, consult on, and develop plans for the delivery and maintenance of high‑quality patient care in a dynamic context with multiple competing priorities. Demonstrated understanding of clinical governance and commitment to participation in activities that improve quality and safety.
