NT Department of Corrections – Trainee Correctional Officer Locations: Darwin, Alice Springs, Tennant Creek. Positions: several full‑time ongoing and fixed‑period appointments. Salary & Remuneration Base pay: $69,316 ‑ $108,308 remuneration package (inclusive of salary, superannuation and allowances). After the initial 11‑week training period the remuneration package rises to $108,308. Training salary breakdown:• 1–8 weeks: $62,167 salary + 12% super = $69,627 package• Weeks 9‑11 (shadow): $97,478 package (salary $62,167 + 40% consolidated allowance $24,867) + 12% super• Post‑training: $108,308 package (salary $69,074 + 40% consolidated allowance $26,825) + 12% super Additional retention allowance: $10,000 for Alice Springs (allocated in stages over 12 months); ongoing retention allowance of $5,000 per year for continued service in Alice Springs. Training & Qualification Eight‑week off‑the‑job training course followed by three weeks of on‑the‑job training (total 11 weeks). 12‑month training program required to complete the nationally accredited CSC30122 Certificate III in Correctional Practice (RTO 1074). All costs are covered by DoC. Performance appraisals and assessments are mandatory during training. Key Responsibilities Supervise, monitor and manage prisoners to ensure safety, security and humane treatment. Employ appropriate security measures and conduct prisoner escorts. Respond to emergencies and support the safe, secure and humane management of correctional centres. Qualifications & Eligibility Australian or New Zealand citizenship, or Australian permanent residency. Visa holders with full work rights may be considered for fixed‑period contracts while awaiting visa outcomes. Good character, strong communication and organisational skills, a good level of fitness and proven ability to work in a cross‑cultural environment. Current First Aid Certificate and a Northern Territory “C” class driver’s licence with manual vehicle driving capability required before commencement. Benefits & Leave Competitive salary package.
