About the Opportunity Reporting to the Principal Safety Authority, the Specialist Safety Engineer will be responsible for scoping, planning and conducting formal safety analysis activities for new or existing designs, systems and systems-of-systems to identify Hazards (in design, maintenance, operation and disposal) to support the smooth running of the Collins Class Submarines. The experienced personnel will be lead and participate in system safety analysis and reviews therefore being experienced in Preliminary Hazard Analysis, System and Subsystem Hazard Analysis, Human Factors, and Safety Design Reviews and system safety performance and compliance. This position is full- time permanent, based from our headquarters in Osborne, SA. Responsibilities Manage all system requirements and associated interfaces, also initiate and provide guidance to all skills levels on all aspects of task Ensure that all safety engineering activities undertaken comply with applicable defence / industry standards, regulations, and policies Author and maintain comprehensive safety documentation, including system safety plans, hazard logs, verification and validation activities, safety meeting documentation and safety assessment reports Participate and undertake in process improvements to continuously enhance safety engineering practices and methodologies Perform these tasks without supervision and with initiative and adaptability to problem situations About you A bachelor's degree in engineering, safety engineering, or a related field 10+ years’ experience of Safety Engineering and Hazard/Risk management related roles(Required) Experience with complex defence / Industry based systems and their system safety programs Experience gaining regulatory approval of complex safety cases in the defence / Industry arena Experience gaining regulatory approval of complex safety cases in the defence / Industry arena Familiar with HAZOP/HAZID Facilitation and/or assessment process Familiar with Software engineering practices and the analysis and determination of Software Criticalitye.g. MIL-STD 882E, IEC 61508 This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals. Whilst ASC will accept all applications for this role, as this role requires an ability to access protected US defence technology, applicants holding nationality of certain foreign countries will not be eligible.
