We are looking for a Senior Ecologist (or experienced Ecologist ready to step up) to join our close-knit team and help grow the business while mentoring junior staff and shaping how we deliver ecology in NSW. Why This Role Stands Out Diverse Projects – From infrastructure to biodiversity stewardship, offsetting, and targeted species programs Collaborative Culture – Work with a down-to-earth, supportive team where your input is valued Grow with Us – We’re expanding, and this is a chance to help shape the direction of the ecology team Real Career Development – Mentoring, BAM accreditation support, CPD pathways and leadership opportunities Work-Life Balance – Hybrid work, flexible hours, monthly RDOs Locally Respected – We’re embedded in the Hunter and known for quality, integrity, and results What You’ll Be Doing Lead or contribute to field surveys, ecological assessments (e.g. BDARs), monitoring programs, and strategic advice Coordinating end-to-end project delivery, including planning, timelines, budgets, and reporting Mentoring and supporting junior team members, particularly in the field and during reporting phases Liaise with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality work Prepare technical reports, tenders, and management plans Contribute to business development and help shape future project directions What We’re Looking For Senior Ecologist 5+ years consulting experience in NSW or equivalent Strong analytical thinker with a sharp eye for detail and a practical approach to problem-solving ·Specialist in ecological assessment and management, with sound understanding of environmental policy across multiple jurisdictions BAM accreditation Strong reporting and client liaison skills ·Strong project management skills, with a focus on quality and delivery Passion for mentoring and team leadership Ecologist 2–4 years’ experience in ecological consulting Familiarity with State and Commonwealth environmental legislation and policy Strong field skills (flora and/or fauna) Excellent written communication and desire to grow Team player, curious and adaptable Flora, fauna, or GIS specialisation Stewardship, offsetting or restoration experience BAM accreditation (or pathway toward it) PhD or Honours in a relevant discipline (not essential) What Will Help You Thrive Here A proactive, solutions-focused mindset Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities Confidence engaging with clients and regulators Commitment to sharing knowledge and supporting team success Initiative and curiosity to contribute beyond the task list Why Work With de Witt Ecology?
