Research Associate/Senior Research Associate (Bioinformatics / Cancer Genomics) Location: Kensington, NSW, Australia Employment type: Full‑time (35 hours a week) Remuneration: $91K – $150K base, depending on experience (+ 17% superannuation and leave loading) Duration: Fixed term until 31 Dec 2026 (possible extension, funding dependent) Work rights: Visa sponsorship is not available. Candidates must hold full rights to work in Australia. Overview Join the Molecular Oncology Group in the Discipline of Women’s Health to conduct translational research improving survival of patients diagnosed with ovarian cancer. You will work with Professor Susan Ramus to identify prognostic markers and develop tumour tests by analysing DNA copy number data from large‑scale shallow whole genome sequencing. Key Responsibilities Analyse high‑dimensional bioinformatic data from preprocessing to analysis in R. Develop and validate prognostic markers and tumour tests for ovarian cancer patients. Interpret and present findings in academic publications, conference presentations, and internal reports. Maintain supercomputing, GitHub, conda environments, and reproducible research documents such as RMarkdown. Coordinate collaborative research projects with investigators from multiple organisations. Keep up to date with discipline knowledge and propose novel research questions relevant to cancer, genetics, or genomics. Qualifications Level A A PhD in Genomics / Bioinformatics or related discipline, or equivalent expertise gained from experience, training and/or professional accreditation. Competency in high‑dimensional bioinformatic data analysis in R. Experience in cancer genetics or genomics is an advantage. Experience with supercomputers, GitHub, conda environments, Python and reproducible research documents such as RMarkdown. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent, high‑quality academic research with limited supervision. High‑level organisational skills, prioritisation, time management, and excellent attention to detail. Track record of publications and conference presentations. Proactive commitment to keeping up to date with discipline knowledge. Level B (in addition to Level A) Minimum five years post‑doctoral research experience. High‑quality and high‑impact research publications and conference presentations. Ability to conceptualise novel research questions and develop them into high‑quality outputs. Experience coordinating collaborative research projects with investigators from multiple organisations. Evidence of an increasing trajectory of research excellence and productivity.
