We're growing fast — and we're looking for a Principal Software Engineer who wants to build, innovate, and own the tech that powers a nationwide inspection platform. Our industry leading proprietary technology connects used-car buyers to qualified mechanics right across the country. For buyers, simply enter the address of a seller's vehicle and our system will determine mechanic availability and expected turnaround times. For mechanics, our locally developed mobile app allows our vast network to claim available jobs, schedule appointments and inspect vehicles in record time. Candidates must demonstrate proven experience leading mobile development projects from conception to deployment. What You'll Be Doing Work directly with the Founder to lead end-to-end technical strategy as we scale to hundreds of thousands of users Build on established locally built core systems that have been engineered focused on speed, stability and ready for serious growth Ship features end-to-end with a "get it done" startup mindset Set the engineering culture and standards for future hires Collaborate directly with the executive team to influence product direction Utilising current tools but also recommending where we go next Champion engineering quality while still moving at startup speed Who You Are 8+ years of engineering experience, including leading complex builds Minimum 10+ years of software engineering experience is required for this senior-level position A hands-on engineer with expert coding skills You've built and scaled real products used by real customers Strong full-stack skills including expertise in React Native, Java Script and AWS You thrive in ambiguity and love turning chaos into structure You care about product, UX, customers, and business outcomes — not just code You lead by example and elevate everyone around you Willing to be hands-on with triage of critical system issues Someone who has experience working directly with a founder Australian work authorisation is required at time of application due to the Melbourne-based hybrid work arrangement Essential experience required in microservices architecture, cloud platforms, and distributed systems Bonus Points (Not required, but awesome if you have them) Experience scaling startups or joining early-stage teams Comfort with cloud infra, DevOps, CI/CD, and automation Experience with marketplaces, inspections, logistics, or SaaS Interest in mobile-friendly platforms or cross-platform frameworks What You'll Get Huge ownership over architecture, velocity, and team culture Ability to influence product strategy from day one Flexible work environment — remote or Melbourne hybrid Competitive salary + meaningful equity (we want you invested in the win) A chance to build something Australia genuinely needs, be proud of it and build a product that gives used car buyers the transparency that they deserve No corporate BS.
