Overview Join the School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW as a Research Associate specializing in Adversarial Learning. Conduct independent and collaborative research on robust multimodal foundational models for continual situational understanding, focusing on adversarial models, attacks, and defence methodologies. Contribute to scientific publications, participate in conferences, supervise HDR students, and collaborate with industry partners. Position Details Salary: Level A – AUD$113,911 to $121,838 per annum + 17% superannuation Full‑time, fixed‑term contract – 3 years starting January 2026 Location: Kensington – Sydney, Australia Working rights required for Australia; visa sponsorship not available Key Responsibilities Conduct independent and collaborative research on robust multimodal foundational models for continual situational understanding. Develop adversarial models and attacks to evaluate the robustness and security of the model. Propose effective defence methodologies. Write scientific papers and reports for international journals. Participate in conferences and workshops. Supervise HDR students and collaborate with industry partners. Skills and Experience PhD (or soon to be awarded) in computer science, electrical engineering, or related area with demonstrated experience in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Experience researching adversarial AI attacks and defence strategies. Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision. Track record of publications in top‑rated journals and conferences. Ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build effective relationships. Strong interpersonal skills for communicating with stakeholders, external clients, and students. Experience supervising undergraduate students or junior staff in related projects. Alignment with UNSW’s aims, objectives and values and commitment to relevant policies and guidelines. Capacity to implement required UNSW health and safety policies and procedures.
