About this opportunity We are seeking an experienced psychologist with substantial knowledge to join our psychology team and assist in further developing our psychological services. This is a rare opportunity in a new service to shape the treatment of vulnerable people accessing treatment and to build capacity across OV programmes. As a Educational and Developmental or Clinical Neuro Psychologist, you will apply your clinical knowledge and expertise to the assessment and support of clients with complex trauma, mental health, and substance misuse issues. You will provide direct interventions and support to staff for clinical advice. Key areas of focus Expertise and leadership Direct clinical work and clinical consultation Duties Undertake assessment and provide practical recommendations for evidence‑based interventions/approaches for clients. Provide clinical advice and education to staff working with clients. Provide expert opinion regarding diagnoses, formal diagnostic assessments, feedback on process considerations and treatment planning considerations/advice. Contribute expertise in clinical meetings to improve service delivery. Deliver secondary consultations formally and informally. Develop thoughtful, evidence‑based recommendations for treatment and management plans. Build capacity for client management within the broader staffing group by providing psychological perspectives and relevant education. Demonstrate behaviours that support a recovery approach to care. Support higher degree psychology students while they undertake placement in the team. Key Selection Criteria We are looking for an individual to bring their expertise to our integrated psychology team and provide clinical advice and guidance to clients and staff. Required qualifications and experience Registration as a Psychologist under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation National Law Act (2009) with practice endorsement as a Clinical, Forensic or Clinical Neuropsychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) (or eligibility to enter a registrar program). At least 3 years of experience in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of substance abuse and/or mental illness. Capacity to undertake a range of screening, assessment and design treatment recommendations with clients who have co‑occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Current knowledge of effective evidence‑based interventions appropriate to low prevalence disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, personality disorders and substance abuse. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with consumers, families/carers, colleagues and other service providers. Ability to work with clients from a range of cultural backgrounds, and to provide gender‑sensitive services. Ability to see the person, acknowledge their value and work with their strengths. Well‑developed writing skills and ability to promptly prepare case assessments and other documentation in plain English, suitable for a lay audience. Thorough understanding of the policies and procedures associated with the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
