About the Team As part of Agoda’s Backend Engineering department, the team builds scalable, fault‑tolerant systems and APIs that power core business functions such as inventory, pricing, bookings, and payments. The team leads critical releases that run dozens of times per day and relies on CI/CD, automation, and modern languages like Scala, Go, Kotlin, Java, and C#. Opportunity Agoda Platform seeks a Principal Software Engineer to design, build, and own end‑to‑end solutions for the platform. The role involves steering architecture, driving cross‑team collaboration, and optimizing system performance for millions of users. Responsibilities Architect and develop highly scalable, mission‑critical backend systems. Own major components from strategy to bytecode. Collaborate across teams to deliver large projects with measurable impact. Provide thoughtful feedback and foster an inclusive engineering environment. Identify and implement optimization opportunities across the stack, focusing on cost and efficiency. Communicate technical trade‑offs to stakeholders, including business owners and executives. Qualifications 10+ years of senior software engineering experience. Hands‑on ownership of production services with end‑to‑end impact. Curiosity and staying abreast of technology trends and open source. Strong programming skills in Kotlin, Scala, Java, C#. Deep research and decisions on complex projects. Excellent communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences. Broad understanding of challenges across the engineering stack, from Front‑end to data analytics. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. Nice to Have Master’s or Ph.D. in a technical field. Experience in FinTech domain. Experience with Kubernetes, CI/CD, and machine‑learning pipelines. Experience with Rust, C, or other low‑level languages. Location Bangkok, Thailand (Relocation support provided).
