James Construction Queensland – Cairns QLD James Construction Queensland are looking to expand their construction team and are extending an Expression of Interest for an experienced Carpenters to join our team. James Construction Queensland has been established since 2017, with The Director having over 30 years experience in Construction. It is a family owned business with 5 family members from Director to Accountant and Construction Manager being involved in the company. We specialise in delivering small commercial, residential and maintenance works. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES General Duties: Work with other site team members to ensure project objectives are achieved. Where a Site Manager has not been appointed for the project, the Carpenter is to combine the duties of the site manager together with his own. Organise work to ensure continuous commitment, attitude, and culture by site team members in compliance with James Constructions project specific management plans and project construction program. Implement James Constructions’ specific management plans and ensure that recording procedures, safe work method statements (SWMS) and checklists are carried out on a daily and as required basis. Conduct inspections of work areas and maintain a record of areas which need attention as well as supervising what corrective action was taken to rectify any unsafe or defective areas. Undertake the weekly inspection of the relevant work area using weekly inspection procedures. Review and action relevant high-risk checklists in the area under the control of the supervisor. Review and authorise the use of plant on site. Undertake assessments of subcontractor SWMS as required by James Constructions’ objectives and targets through task observations ensuring compliance and accountability. Compliance with the process for ensuring compliance with SWMS on the project using task observation process. Work closely with the site health and safety officer to ensure that safe work practices are being maintained and promote the commitment to working safely and provide information, instructions, and supervision to workers on the project for all HSEQ matters. Ensure work is completed in accordance with the correct construction techniques, James Constructions’ Quality System Manual and authority expectations. Participate in and assist in developing an appropriate safety committee for the project. Maintain accurate minutes of each meeting and instigate checking procedures to ensure the areas notified are rectified as soon as possible. Ensure that the latest revisions of contract documents (including construction drawings and schedules) listed in the drawing register are in use and all previous issues and revisions are either removed from the system or clearly identified as being obsolete. To liaise and work with the Site Manager and Team Health, Safety and Environment Manager in investigating and reviewing all serious or dangerous occurrences, and to ensure accident/incident reports are properly documented with appropriate corrective action taken where required. Ensure site personnel are aware of their environmental, health and safety obligations. Ensure RFI, site instruction, memo forms and email communications are up to date. Monitor all subcontractors to ensure they are utilizing current construction documentation including but not limited to drawings, program, and specifications. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education and/or Experience Minimum of 1-year’s experience as a Carpenter in a similar role. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Certificate III (Trade) in Construction as a preferable qualification. Driver's License Construction Induction Card (White Card) Working at Heights. EWP, Forklift, Truck, Excavator and Skid-steer license. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear and use feet to control pedals. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 kg. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee needs to have the ability to operate controls while watching out ahead. WORK ENVIRONMENT Cairns local work, with occasional opportunities for small periods away in Mt Isa and surrounding areas. Variety of work provides new challenges. Excellent remuneration package for the right person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to hot and humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment may be loud at times.
