About the Role : We are seeking an experienced Senior Clinical Psychologist to join the Department of Clinical Psychology and Neuropsychology (DCPN) at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH). In this senior role, you will provide advanced clinical expertise, supervision, and leadership in the delivery of integrated, high-quality, evidence-based care that is responsive to the complex needs of our patients and families. Your role will be integral to ensuring holistic, coordinated care that supports both the physical and emotional wellbeing of patients and their families, through participation in care planning, family meetings, and multidisciplinary case discussions. You will join a supportive and highly skilled team and you will work across several specialty areas, providing essential support to children and families navigating the challenges of acute and chronic medical conditions across several specialty areas, including : Neurology – Neuromuscular Service As a valued member of the multidisciplinary Neuromuscular Service, you will provide psychological support to children and adolescents diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and other inherited neuromuscular conditions. You will play a critical role in supporting emotional wellbeing, adjustment to diagnosis, treatment adherence, and developmental transitions for young people living with progressive, life-limiting conditions. In addition to direct clinical care, your responsibilities will include evaluating and reporting outcomes of the psychological service and contributing to the development of a sustainable service model to ensure ongoing access to psychological care for this vulnerable patient group. Differences in Sex Development (DSD) Service Based at PCH, the DSD Service is a newly established, state‑wide program within the Endocrinology Department, providing holistic, patient‑centred care to individuals aged 0–18 and their families. The service is grounded in principles of informed consent, patient safety, and future autonomy, ensuring children and families are empowered and supported at every stage of their care. We are proud to be setting a new national standard for DSD care. Our team works closely with families to promote understanding of diagnoses, guide complex healthcare decisions, and strengthen coping and communication at home, in schools, and within the broader community. Your work will focus on promoting wellbeing, supporting informed decision‑making, and addressing issues related to self‑esteem, identity, social relationships, and mental health. You will draw on empathy, professional expertise, and flexibility to meet each child and family where they are in their journey — creating a safe and inclusive space for sensitive and complex conversations. The ideal candidate will have prior experience within their preferred clinical setting, demonstrating leadership and expertise in developing clinical programs and initiatives. A strong commitment to patient‑centred care and empowering young individuals throughout their unique journeys is essential for this role. Please note a Master or Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and eligibility for full registration and endorsement in Clinical Psychology with the Psychology Board of Australia is a requirement for this role. Prior health sector experience is preferred but not required. About our Team Based at Perth Children’s Hospital, our dedicated team provide a state‑wide service to children aged 0–16 years, and their families, according to cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and psychological needs, including both inpatients and outpatients. As part of a multi‑disciplinary team of health professionals, we deliver holistic and integrated psychological care aimed at improving outcomes for children with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and complex medical needs, including when mental health challenges affect their engagement with medical treatment. We also provide crucial support and education to families as they navigate the challenges and impact of the child’s illness, disability or hospitalisation, and collaborate with schools to develop tailored strategies and accommodations to support the child at home and in community settings. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we actively participate in innovative research, education and comprehensive clinical training to continually enhance the quality of care provided.
