Data Engineer- Quantum Control Systems

We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to design and implement robust data infrastructure for quantum control systems. This role involves building scalable solutions for managing complex scientific data, ensuring traceability, and enabling efficient workflows across the organization. Job Requirements Have a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline Experienced with database design and optimization for distributed systems Proficient in Postgres or similar , object storage systems and relational database schema design Skilled in Python for data processing, ETL pipelines, and automation Comfortable with data modeling for complex scientific and technical workflows Knowledgeable about data warehousing and distributed data architecture concepts Proficient with Git and collaborative development workflows Comfortable working with scientific/technical data and understanding domain requirements Advocate for clean, maintainable data architectures that enable system-wide traceability Bonus Points If You... Have worked with frontends and backends (or on teams with peers having those skills) Have experience with scientific computing Know C++ for performance-critical data processing Have worked with time-series data at scale (digitized signals, waveforms) Are familiar with HDF5, Parquet, or Zarr or other suitable scientific data formats Have experience with data streaming and real-time data pipelines Understand data governance , audit trails, and compliance requirements Have experience with metadata management and data lineage tracking Understand quantum computing, control systems, or have physics/engineering background Have contributed to open-source data infrastructure projects Have experience with distributed databases or data federation Know about data compression techniques for large scientific datasets Have experience correlating data across heterogeneous storage systems Job Responsibilities Design and implement a hybrid database architecture that serves as the central needs for our organisation Build data infrastructure combining object storage for large‑scale data with relational databases for metadata, cross‑system correlation, and audit trails Develop APIs, data and ETL pipelines for data at scale Handle quantum data across the lifecycle of company operations for hardware and their operation Implement data retention, archival, and lifecycle management policies for experimental data Gorgeous central Sydney CBD office location Paid time off to volunteer for a cause you’re passionate about At Diraq, you won’t just write code — you’ll build the tools that make quantum computing possible and the freedom to choose the best technical path forward Be part of a team that values rigour, creativity, and collaboration You’ll work with world‑class scientists and engineers on some of the most ambitious technical challenges of our time You’ll help shape a future where quantum computing is accessible, scalable, and transformative.
