School Learning Support Officer - Student Health Support - Newcastle Senior School NSW Department of Education – Newcastle NSW The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world‑class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non‑government schools. About the Role School Learning Support Officers (Student Health Support) provide support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher. The main focus is to perform health support as required so that students can participate in and access educational programs. Essential Requirements Working with Children Check Clearance Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education to undertake first aid, administration of medications and health care procedures training. Selection Criteria Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities. Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities. Effective communication skills. Additional Information Newcastle Senior School is a SSP (School for Specific Purposes) located in Waratah NSW, that values the well‑being of students and staff and will provide a supportive and safe space for all. Our vision is to prepare students and families for post‑school life by providing strong support at all transition points and setting high expectations with all stakeholders. Our School caters for students with significant disabilities from Year 9 to Year 12, we are part of a three‑school model that has a Junior and a Middle school located on separate sites. Newcastle Senior School in 2026 will have 42 students across 8 classes and will deliver programs that support wellbeing via the use of the hydrotherapy pool, sensory play equipment, art therapy and music programs. We provide curriculum programs to help young people develop knowledge and skills for learning, work and life.
