Position Purpose Employment Cultural Support Worker Volunteers play a vital role in empowering people seeking asylum to confidently engage with the Employment Program. Working alongside Career Coaches and the Employment team, they help members navigate the Australian job market, provide cultural insights and foster trust throughout the job search journey. About the Program: Employment Program The ASRC Employment Program helps people seeking asylum gain skills, confidence and access to meaningful work. It offers career coaching, job readiness training and employer connections to overcome barriers and build pathways to employment in a supportive, inclusive environment. Organisational context The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia's largest independent organization providing aid, employment, health services, and advocacy for people seeking asylum. Powered by over 500 volunteers and 200 staff, we create welcoming and inclusive environments. Our organisational values are Welcoming, Authentic, Courageous, and Collaborative. Key Responsibilities Welcome and induct members into the Employment Program, explaining its purpose and mutual responsibilities Support members in navigating the Australian employment system and job-seeking practices Provide cultural guidance to Career Coaches to improve communication and member comfort Encourage member participation and motivation throughout their employment journey Act as a cultural bridge to foster trust and understanding between clients and staff Assist members during appointments, workshops, and group sessions Maintain confidentiality and accurate records of member engagement What We’re Looking For Essential Commitment to the rights of people seeking asylum and ASRC values (Collaboration, Welcome, Courage, Authenticity) Good communication and teamwork skills Multilingual, with Level 3 English proficiency (able to communicate effectively in English and interpret information for clients) Demonstrated ability to build rapport and trust with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Ability to clearly explain processes, obligations and expectations in a culturally appropriate and empathetic manner. Intermediate computer and data entry skills Reliability and willingness to commit to agreed volunteer hours Desirable Lived experience of seeking asylum Knowledge of the policy context of practice with asylum seekers visa categories/conditions, and the barriers faced by people seeking asylum in Australia Category Community Services Commitment Regular - more than 6 months Time Required Typical commitment is 1 shift per week from 9:30am - 4:00pm, for a minimum period of 12 months, with some flexibility.
