In this role, you will operate with a high level of autonomy, responsible for leading national policy and reform agendas, TheDirector Fisheries Policyis responsible for developing and advising on policy initiatives that support sustainable fisheries management. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including industry representatives and government agencies, to influence national policy and reform agendas. Key responsibilities include leading complex policy analysis, maintaining influential relationships, providing strategic advice to government officials, and representing the Department at state and national forums. The Director also contributes to strategic planning and fosters a culture of innovation within the division. About You The ideal candidate for the Director Fisheries Policy position will possess a strong background in developing policies related to fisheries and natural resource management. You will have a proven ability to establish and maintain influential relationships with government and industry stakeholders to ensure effective achievement of policy objectives. Additionally, you will be adept at maintaining alignment of policy and legislative settings with the government’s broader policy objectives for primary industries. You excel in balancing political drivers and imperatives with the diverse views and demands of stakeholders, as well as legislative and resource constraints. This skill allows you to produce effective and efficient policy for the Fisheries sector. You will work with a high level of autonomy, managing a team and resources, including budget oversight, to achieve strategic goals. Strong communication skills are essential, particularly in negotiation and facilitation, enabling you to engage and consult effectively with diverse groups. As a strategic thinker, you will contribute to executive-level planning and operational execution. Your leadership qualities will shine as a collaborative leader who fosters innovation and teamwork among senior executives. A commitment to sustainability is crucial, as you are passionate about sustainable fisheries management and dedicated to evidence-based decision-making for the benefit of the community and the environment. You’ll be someone who can: Leverage your strong background in fisheries and natural resource management to create and execute impactful policy initiatives. Establish and nurture relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government officials and industry leaders, while utilising your communication skills for effective negotiation and facilitation. Contribute to executive-level strategic planning and operational execution, while promoting a collaborative environment that encourages innovative thinking and a commitment to sustainable fisheries management.
