About the First Nations Health Unit The First Nations Health Unit at Austin Health leads and coordinates initiatives to improve the health, wellbeing, and cultural safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The Unit drives key strategies such as the Cultural Safety Plan and Aboriginal Employment Plan, and works closely with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to embed cultural safety across all services. About the role The First Nations Health Education Lead plays a pivotal role in designing and delivering culturally safe education programs for Austin Health staff. This includes leading interactive face‑to‑face sessions and online modules co‑designed with ACCOs and the Clinical Education Unit. The role supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and students through mentoring and advocacy, fostering professional growth and wellbeing. Responsibilities Lead the design and delivery of Austin Health’s Aboriginal Cultural Safety Education Program. Facilitate interactive education sessions and online learning modules. Collaborate with ACCOs and internal stakeholders to ensure culturally responsive education. Mentor and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and students. Monitor and report on KPIs related to cultural safety education and workforce development. About you You will be someone who has excellent communication skills, with a strong commitment to excellence in patient care. You’ll bring energy and drive to your work, and have a keen interest in developing your skill set. Qualifications Identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander status (special measures apply). Experience in developing and delivering culturally safe education programs. Ability to mentor and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and students. Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural values and health practices. High‑level interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach.
