Short term contract - Mental Health Registered Nurse (Mental Health Services)- Hobart, Tasmania Job Type: Temporary position | Part time position Job Description We are looking for a Registered Nurse/RN in Mental Health to work from 09/12/2025 to 06/03/2026 at a Southern Tasmania hospital. This short‑term, locum position is part of the Mental Health Services Unit (MHSSU) and will collaborate with the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department, Alcohol and Drug Services, and community mental health services to improve outcomes for clients presenting with mental illness and/or addiction concerns. Key responsibilities: Collaborate with unit staff and multidisciplinary teams to provide specialist assessment and support for patients with mental health and concurrent alcohol or drug use issues. Deliver evidence‑based interventions, recommend treatments, and contribute to clinical decision‑making, care planning, implementation and evaluation. Facilitate access to appropriate community and inpatient services, ensuring seamless handovers and safe discharge processes. Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including ED, Child & Adolescent/Adult & Older Persons Mental Health Services, Inpatient Mental Health Services, Forensic Mental Health Services, and. Provide ongoing education, guidance and support for nursing and medical staff on mental health management, comorbidity, and legislative issues such as seclusion and restraint. Perform the role of a Mental Health Officer in accordance with the Mental Health Act 2013, including assessment, evaluation and clinical pathway development. Qualifications and requirements: Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBNA). Experience in high‑dependency and acute mental health settings; qualified Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 5 with the Vulnerable People registration. Current Australian driver’s licence.
