Senior Data Scientist – Australia (Brisbane, Queensland) At WSP Digital, the digital consulting and solutions division of WSP, we are looking for an experienced Senior Data Scientist to grow our team across Australia. Opportunity WSP Digital is a global innovator in software, enhancing engineering, infrastructure, building, and environmental projects. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will identify, prioritise, and solve complex engineering business problems using advanced statistical and analytical modelling techniques, including Machine Learning, predictive models, discrete event simulation, and constrained optimisation, and develop data pipelines to operationalise these models. Responsibilities Work with a range of government and commercial clients to enhance critical infrastructure systems. Understand client needs and devise novel, winning solutions. Provide technical leadership and design solutions for junior data scientists. Collaborate with Digital Engineering and Location Intelligence teams to deliver multidisciplinary projects. Anticipate, characterise, and manage complex real‑world data; devise mitigations for successful outcomes. Take corrective action and make tough decisions to recover or successfully implement projects. Work with massive datasets using big‑data tools and distributed processing. Perform deep‑dive analyses of experiments with reliable modelling methods. Translate analytical insights into actionable recommendations for business, process, or product improvements. Recommend new data collection or refinement of existing sources and storage. Collaborate with subject‑matter experts to solve real‑world engineering problems with ML and data science. Influence change and bring ideas to life across the business. Create solutions that benefit the wider community and contribute to a sustainable future. Qualifications 6+ years of experience in a data science environment. Ability to ideate and scope complex data‑driven projects. Depth of core data science, machine learning, and statistical concepts. Knowledge of AWS and/or Azure platforms. Experience with data warehousing solutions such as Databricks, Snowflake, etc. Strong analytical skills with high‑volume, high‑dimensional data. Passion for empirical research and answering hard questions with data. Track record of successful client adoption and/or operationalisation of analytical tools. Expertise in analytical tools and cloud data services. Knowledge of constrained optimisation and discrete event simulation. Excellent communication of quantitative analysis in clear, precise, actionable terms. Mentoring ability for junior staff. Solid understanding of software engineering practices.
