Queensland Fire & Emergency Services – Albion QLD The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes. The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state. The QFD is an organisation that is committed to reframing the department’s relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through activities identified in the QFD Reframing the Relationship Plan, contributing to Closing the Gap outcomes and building our cultural capability. The Relations and Standards branch strives to ensure QFD’s workforce upholds the highest levels of professional and ethical standards as is expected of the Queensland Government and the community. It achieves this through several mechanisms, including managing workplace complaints, conducting high-level and complex disciplinary investigations, and proactively identifying and providing advice on conduct related matters. Workforce Support includes the Workforce Liaison and Workplace Standards teams. The unit works closely with the regional network of Senior Advisors, Workplace Standards (SAWS) to help achieve its aim of increasing people management capability, reducing instances of poor workplace conduct and increasing positive workplace experience. Reporting to the Director, Relations and Standards you will lead and manage the functions of the team and will work closely with senior managers, staff, volunteers, partners and external stakeholders to align workplace conduct strategies and services to whole-of-government, departmental and divisional objectives. Highly desirable requirements While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, extensive practical experience in human resources or industrial relations roles and/or qualifications in these fields will be favourably regarded. Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to: Lead, manage, collate and analyse trends in QFD conduct and performance excellence management to provide recommendations for continuous improvement and report on positive outcomes. Provide strategic advice and coaching to senior management on workplace conduct policy and practice to ensure governance, compliance and continuous improvement towards positive culture change. Develop strategies and resources designed to enhance the capability of managers and human resource practitioners (including volunteers) in the management of employee conduct and performance. Research and prepare complex submissions, briefs, reports and correspondence relating to issues and initiatives, in accordance with legislative and departmental requirements and governance. Build and maintain positive and productive relationships with internal and external key stakeholders both across state government departments and other agencies to promote positive outcomes for QFD. Represent the department on committees, working groups and whole-of-government forums with a view to promoting positive outcomes, service delivery enhancements and successful program delivery. Manage and oversee projects and initiatives in accordance with best practice methodologies and ensure they are delivered within agreed timeframes and business objectives are achieved. Lead and manage the functions of the team through effective human resource, and financial management practices, including developing staff through performance, planning and review.
