Department of Education Victoria – Caroline Springs VIC Lakeview Senior College is located in the rapidly developing suburb of Caroline Springs, approximately 20 kilometres west of Melbourne. It is a government secondary school educating students from Years 10 to 12. Most graduates pursue further education in tertiary settings or undertake professional, business or trade related training and employment. The college has a student population of around 955 in 2023, offering an extensive selection of subjects at each year level so every student can pursue a learning pathway tailored to their individual needs. The learning‑focused environment maintains high expectations of students, promoting and celebrating academic excellence. Year 10 students study a broad range of subjects to prepare them for their final two years. Year 11 & 12 students choose either a VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) or a VCE‑VM (Vocational Major). The choice allows both academic and vocational training courses. Partnerships with the Melton and Brimbank Clusters of Schools give students a wider variety of VET (Vocational Education & Training) courses. The courses offered facilitate lifelong development and growth, enabling young adults to achieve success and acquire skills, knowledge, and a desire to contribute meaningfully to society. The college is equipped with modern Interactive Whiteboards, a fully equipped gymnasium, and access to shared community facilities such as a well‑resourced library and playing fields within walking distance. Pedagogical understandings underpin the academic programs and drive curriculum development: learner‑centred classrooms focused on individual learning needs through flexible multi‑use spaces with ICT access; strong emphasis on self‑assessment, goal setting, and focused teaching; belief in professional learning teams (PLTs) that facilitate collaboration between teachers and with external providers when required. The college develops students to be: committed to high academic standards and personal potential; consistent in improving skills, knowledge, and higher‑order thinking; self‑disciplined through completing class work and homework; proud of quality performance; respectful of workplace and college environment; active participants in student activities that build leadership and teamwork. Strong relationships are built with students, teachers, parents, and the local community, including the Shire of Melton and other schools. The college encourages environmentally sustainable practices, electronic communication, and supports student wellbeing through proactive, individualised programs and follow‑up with families. Selection Criteria SC1 – Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including literacy and numeracy teaching; experience responding to student learning needs. SC2 – Experience planning and implementing high‑impact teaching strategies, guided by student learning principles, and evaluating impact on growth. SC3 – Experience monitoring and assessing student learning; using data to inform practice and provide feedback to students and parents. SC4 – Interpersonal and communication skills; building collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community to support learning, agency, wellbeing, and engagement. SC5 – Behaviours and attitudes aligned with Department values; reflection on practice and engagement in professional learning to improve teaching quality. Role Classroom teachers are classified into two salary ranges. The primary focus is on planning, preparing, and teaching programs to achieve specific student outcomes, along with critical reflection and inquiry to improve knowledge and skills. As teachers gain experience, their contribution extends beyond the classroom, potentially involving: assisting the school to improve student performance, educational outcomes, and contributing to policy development; providing expert advice on content, processes, and strategies that shape individual and professional learning; supervising and training student teachers; helping staff use student data to inform instructional approaches. Responsibilities Direct teaching of student groups and individuals; Contributing to the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum or other programs; Undertaking classroom‑related and organisational duties as determined by the Principal; Participating in parent‑teacher meetings, staff meetings, camps, and excursions; Undertaking non‑teaching supervisory duties.
