Senior Consultant to Senior Associate Engineer, Geo‑Environmental Engineering – Newcastle Apply for the Senior Consultant to Senior Associate Engineer position at WSP in Australia. Overview We’re expanding our Geo‑Environmental Engineering team and are looking for a Senior Consultant to Senior Associate Engineer to join our Newcastle office. This hybrid role offers flexibility and the chance to lead a talented technical team while building strong client relationships across Australia. You’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering projects in civil infrastructure, waste, water, and mining sectors. Responsibilities Lead and deliver waste management projects including landfill design, engineered containment systems, geosynthetic applications, and resource recovery solutions. Lead and deliver water infrastructure projects including dam engineering, earth structures, repair works, and wastewater management ponds. Lead and deliver mining projects including tailings management facilities and complex liner systems. Lead and deliver ground engineering projects including slope stabilisation and rehabilitation. Develop cutting‑edge solutions for geo‑environmental challenges, integrating waste management into broader infrastructure projects. Prepare and review technical documentation for waste‑related projects across planning, design, and execution phases. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients in the waste and geo‑environmental sectors, supporting both project delivery and business development initiatives. Ensure technical excellence in waste and geo‑environmental engineering, overseeing quality and risk management. Undertake project management to deliver desired outcomes for key clients with a focus on repeat business. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a collaborative team environment and sharing expertise in waste management and geo‑environmental engineering. Qualifications Greater than 7 years of relevant industry experience. Experience in delivering high‑quality, detailed design documentation. Technical expertise in waste management, including design of landfills, leachate collection and treatment systems, geosynthetics, capping systems, and resource recovery infrastructure. Ability to assess and design for subsurface environmental risks, embankments, complex earthworks, and surface water management systems. Proficiency using design software and tools to produce accurate, constructible, and compliant engineering designs. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Experience leading and contributing to multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring integration of design elements across disciplines. Proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with a strong commitment to sustainability, innovation, and technical excellence. Proven mentoring skills and ability to guide junior to senior engineers, with sound decision‑making and project delivery skills.
