The Department of Customer Service Legal team is offering two Managing Lawyer, Advisory and Legislation opportunities. Reporting to a Director, Legal, you will be responsible for both providing and supervising the delivery of legal services on a broad range of challenging matters and projects across DCS agencies, particularly Service NSW. A person in a Managing Lawyer role will need to : Provide and supervise a small team in the provision of accurate, timely and expert advice on critical legal issues across the range of legislation administered by DCS and Service NSW, including statutory interpretation, the conduct of legislative projects and administrative law. Analyse and interpret legislation; draft documents including advice, submissions, and other legal documentation briefing notes and correspondence. Work with our internal stakeholders on a range of legislative and digital data projects, including requests for advice, to exchange information, complete tasks and meet deadlines providing advice that supports the organisation. The roles involve working in a fast-paced environment with changing and competing priorities. To be successful in a Managing Lawyer role it is essential that you are motivated and an effective communicator with great initiative who can work with and manage other lawyers, adapt to changing priorities, and manage competing deadlines. The right applicant will use their initiative, be client focused and be able to respond to novel questions and develop innovative solutions. The right applicant will also be keen to expand their skills and experience in supervising a wide range of work. Each Managing Lawyer role provides an opportunity to undertake a broad range of legal work across DCS agencies. Lawyers with experience in government, privacy law, regulatory and / or administrative law would be best suited for these roles.? To be successful in the role of Managing Lawyer, you will require : Admitted as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of New South Wales with relevant experience, and capacity to manage and supervise the work of others in a legal team. Strong background in providing advice as to the interpretation and operation of legislation. Experience in advising and legal drafting in relation to administrative law, interpretation, and operation of legislation, privacy, and access to government information and public law.
