Reminiscence Companion

As a Reminiscence Companion Volunteer, you’ll spend time with residents in our retirement village, helping them reflect on cherished memories, life experiences, and personal stories. You will help bring the past to life with each interaction, conversation and shared story. This volunteer role is about being present, curious, and kind turning everyday chats into treasured experiences that make residents feel truly seen and heard. Main Tasks Engage residents in one‑on‑one or small group conversations focused on personal memories, life stories, hobbies, milestones, to promote emotional wellbeing and meaningful connection Use prompts, such as photos, music, objects, keepsakes or themed topics to encourage storytelling and stimulate joyful reflection Listen actively and respectfully, showing empathy and interest to help residents feel seen, heard and valued Encourage storytelling, laughter and shared experiences to foster a sense of belonging and community spirit Volunteer only in communal areas and never enter residents private residence to ensure residents privacy and maintain respectful boundaries Personal Qualities and Skills Be a good listener, with empathy and emotional sensitivity Be reliable, flexible and committed Ability to make personal connections with staff, volunteers, senior people, and their families regardless of cultural backgrounds, beliefs and denominations Benefits Access to RSL LifeCare Employee Assistance Program Gain valuable skills, experience and access various online and in‑person trainings Develop your listening, empathy, and communication skills in a supportive environment Be a valuable member of our team and have the opportunity to be part of RSL LifeCare Volunteer Panel Ongoing support throughout your volunteer journey Category Seniors & Aged Care Commitment Regular – less than 6 months Type Of Work Companionship & Social Support, Seniors & Aged Care Time Required 2 hours a week or fortnight, between Monday to Friday.
