Early Learning Centre The Peter Toms Early Learning Centre at BGS facilitates the growth and development of pre‑school aged boys in preparation for entry into primary school. In addition to the provision of a stimulating and engaging kindergarten program, the ELC also offers optional care for students before and after their kindergarten session and during the term breaks. Staff work as part of a team whose key function is to provide a safe and stimulating environment for preschool aged children. The role We are currently seeking applications from experienced early childhood leaders to join our highly regarded ELC in the position of Director of the Early Learning Centre. Whilst it is our preference for the successful applicant to commence in the new year, there is some flexibility to negotiate a later start date if needed. Responsibilities Developing and preparing the boys in the ELC, ensuring a successful transition to primary school education. Development and review of the early years learning curriculum that reflects appropriate approaches to education for 3 and 4 year old boys. Establishing an environment that is stimulating, focused and facilitates learning which reflects the School’s values and ethos. Management of staffing to ensure a cohesive and supportive team environment whilst ensuring adherence to Teacher‑Student ratios as required by the Department of Education & Early Childhood Development (DEECD). Maintaining contact with families in order to ensure a welcoming and supportive environment. Managing the physical resources for the Early Learning Centre including items such as budgets, classroom equipment, capital forecasts and technology requirements as appropriate and as required. Taking a proactive approach to implementing and monitoring safe work practices, fostering a climate in which safety is a shared priority for staff, students, parents and visitors. Participation at various School functions including Parent Information Sessions, Parent/Staff Social Evenings, Parent/Teacher Discussion Evenings, School concerts, Drama productions, and School Presentation nights. Qualifications Bachelor of Early Childhood Education or equivalent, together with current VIT registration. Demonstrated experience in a Director or leadership role within an early childhood education setting. A strong understanding of early childhood education with expertise in curriculum design, assessment and student wellbeing. In‑depth knowledge of the National Quality Framework (NQF) and Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). An appreciation of the social and emotional needs of Early Learning Centre aged boys and an enthusiasm to meet these needs. The ability to inspire, support, develop and motivate a team of staff. Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship building skills. The ability to think strategically and operationally to ensure strong management of the Centre including staffing, timetabling/rosters, budgets and compliance. ACECQA‑approved first aid, emergency asthma and anaphylaxis management training. A commitment to child safety, diversity and inclusion. Why work for us?
