Job Overview: Qualcomm is looking for a talented and enthusiastic software engineer with strong experience in OS, kernel and computer architecture. The Sydney Hypervisor team is world‑leading, enabling virtualization across multiple chipset products for mobile, automotive and IoT. They develop the open‑source Gunyah hypervisor and support Linux‑based virtualization for a broad portfolio of ARM processors embedded in Qualcomm’s chipset products. The role includes interfacing with large software stacks such as Firmware, TF‑A, Linux, Android and TrustZone, providing opportunity to collaborate with teams worldwide. Responsibilities Design, contribute to and review new features that solve problems elegantly and meet product requirements. Develop code to a high quality and assist in reviewing code developed by other engineers. Mentor and train junior engineers. Triage software issues, investigate defects and resolve problems. Collaborate with other teams on feature requests, integration and problem solving to identify and resolve issues. Produce technical documentation including APIs, manuals and user guides. Skills and Experience Strong understanding and experience in C programming. Strong understanding of computer architecture, operating systems and kernels. Experience in Linux/kernel, RTOS, bootloader or OS development, including writing device drivers and hardware interfacing. Good CPU architecture knowledge, especially ARM CPUs. Understanding of virtualization and hypervisors highly desirable. Experience with multiprocessing, multi‑threading, concurrency and synchronization. Experience with software certification, including ASIL, and secure coding practices desirable. Strong debugging skills; understanding of assembly code and use of tools such as GDB and Trace32. Good understanding of toolchains and system libraries (libc, etc.). Python, shell scripting and Linux‑based development environment. Good communication and presentation skills. Test development and test automation. Independent worker with software design experience and solid analytic/problem‑solving skills. Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or related field, or significant relevant equivalent employment experience. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience. Master’s degree and 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience. PhD and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience. 2+ years of work experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc. Eligibility to work in Australia without employer sponsorship is required.
