Horse Trainer/Breeding

NG & SM DUNCAN trading as Oakland Park Stud is seeking a highly motivated and adaptive individual to join our growing team as a full-time Horse Trainer/Breeding. Horse Trainer/Breeding – Duties will include: Training young stock including weanlings and yearlings for sale Overseeing daily care and supervision of breeding horses Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy Assisting Veterinarians in attending to medical and health needs of horses as required The salary will be above award – in the range of $75,000 to $78,000 per annum depending upon the skill set and level of responsibility. A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses A minimum of two years’ experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including mares and yearlings Proven ability to train and educate young horses The suitable applicant will require evidence of managing a small team during the season Oral and written communication skills are sufficient to provide information and advice to others and prepare reports Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of horses Practical experience and expertise in the management of leg deviations in foals with appropriate references.
