About the role As the Train Controller, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Operational Group, which is responsible for the day‑to‑day delivery of train and coach services across regional Victoria and increasingly peri‑urban Melbourne. You will work on‑site, across a 24/7 rotating roster including weekends and public holidays, recording and facilitating the implementation, coordination and planning of rolling stock across the rail corridor. Key Accountabilities Implement and communicate the daily train plan while responding to changing operational requirements due to disruptions. Manage disruptions across the network, plan and advise train operators and relevant stakeholders of alterations to service. Provide ongoing updates to senior leaders on work systems and processes. Collate and record time‑accurate information on traffic performance using operations graphs, IRS, and R.A.M.S. Implement a V/Line emergency and crisis management plan in response to incidents. Issue and manage track occupations and warrants in accordance with V/Line policy. Report and record all accidents/incidents for investigation. Training Program V/Line offers a 10‑week training program to ensure individuals are equipped to take on the responsibility of the Train Controller position. Level 4 is required and successful completion of the training is a prerequisite for progression to a fully qualified Train Controller. The next training class commences 2 February 2026. Location & Travel Considerations This is an onsite‑only position based in Melbourne CBD. Due to fatigue‑management considerations, candidates must reside within 1 hour travel time (≈ 60 km) of Melbourne CBD. About you This position will suit a detail‑oriented operator with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. You will thrive in time‑sensitive environments and make quick, accurate decisions under pressure. Excellent communication and reasoning skills are essential. Ideal candidate profile Live within 1 hour travel of Melbourne CBD / 60 km. Able to commit to a 24/7 rotating roster including weekends and public holidays.
