Our business is growing, with some very exciting long-term projects. The company has recently been acquired by Battery Energy, and this acquisition is leading to even more exciting opportunities. As our business grows, we are looking for an Embedded Engineer to join our small, but high performing team. We're seeking an Embedded Engineer with strong experience in designing, developing, and maintaining secure embedded systems. You'll work hands‑on across the entire stack—from bootloader to web API, ensuring reliability, security, and maintainability for long‑life field deployments. Candidates must demonstrate mid‑level expertise and experience appropriate for this Embedded Engineer position. Key responsibilities Embedded system development: Design, develop, and maintain secure embedded real‑time and Linux operating systems for a new embedded controller Hardware integration: Collaborate with colleagues and customers to define interfaces, test performance, and optimise system behaviour Connectivity and protocols: Implement and maintain communication protocols such as Modbus, CAN bus, SNMP, MQTT, Ethernet/IP, and digital/analogue I/O Testing and validation: Develop and execute test plans for functional, performance, and environmental validation Continuous improvement: Contribute to system reliability, diagnostics, and maintainability quality code, documentation, and automation Collaboration: Work closely with hardware, software, and product teams to deliver integrated, end‑to‑end systems Skills and experience Proven experience developing embedded real‑time and Linux operating systems using solutions such as FreeRTOS, Yocto and OpenEmbedded Minimum 5-7 years of embedded systems development experience is required Strong understanding of RTOS concepts, microcontroller architectures, and peripheral interfaces (UART, SPI, I²C, GPIO) Proficiency in C/C++, plus scripting experience in Python and/or Lua Experience with bootloader solutions such as U‑Boot and OTA solutions such as RAUC Skilled in debugging, version control (Git/Bitbucket), and CI/CD workflows Familiarity with communication protocols (Modbus, CAN bus, SNMP, MQTT, TCP/IP) Experience collaborating in agile product teams using Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence) Must have Australian work rights for this position Familiarity with hardware bring‑up, board testing, and manufacturing processes Ability to read and interpret schematics, datasheets, and hardware documentation Exposure to IoT, telemetry systems, or energy‑related control platforms Understanding of security, reliability, and safety principles in embedded design Knowledge of electrical/power engineering principles About you…..
