Overview Employment Type: Temporary Full TimePosition Classification: Career Medical Off Gde 2Remuneration: - Hours Per Week: 38Requisition ID: REQ The primary purpose of the Career Medical Officer (CMO) is to provide independent, high level medical care, including responsibility for the assessment, investigation and initial management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department and admitted to inpatient wards. The CMO will be supervised by specialist staff, and provide supervision and support to junior medical staff in the Emergency Department. The position also serves to support the completion of the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) or Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD) through the Australian College of Emergency Medicine. It offers a regional hospital context with exposure to rural medicine, trauma, and a range of ED cases in a busy, supervised environment. Responsibilities Provide independent, high level medical care for patients in the Emergency Department and inpatient wards. Assess, investigate and initiate initial management of presentations; supervise and support junior medical staff in the Emergency Department. Contribute to the completion of the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) or Diploma (EMD) through the Australian College of Emergency Medicine. Participate in trauma, resuscitation, and interventional radiology/cardiology pathways as part of a regional centre team. Qualifications MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia. Unconditional general registration or eligible for unconditional registration with AHPRA. Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in planning, delivery and coordination of patient care. Advanced written and verbal communication skills with patients, family members and the health care team. Advanced organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management. Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self education. Three or more years of experience in a public hospital setting, with demonstrated competency in clinical skills including advanced life support and ability to perform ALS procedures (endotracheal intubation, insertion of central lines, arterial lines and intercostal catheters), interpreting history, physical examination, pathology, ECG and radiological investigations to diagnose simple and complex Emergency Medicine presentations.
