Responsibilities The Senior Engineer, Data Centres is responsible for the operations and maintenance of all plant and engineering equipment (electrical and mechanical) assigned within QUT data centres to ensure continuous availability and delivery of required technology services. The role is positioned within the Network and Infrastructure Delivery team and works closely with cloud and platform engineering teams, eResearch and portfolio and project groups to facilitate data centre activities—including new equipment, additional capacity or changes to existing equipment. The position also plays a key part in vendor management of data centre operations and serves as the day‑to‑day contact for data centre logistics and activities, reporting to the Principal Consultant, Engagement and Service Delivery for career planning, development, and performance expectations. Qualifications & Requirements Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications in Information Technology and extensive relevant experience managing critical, high‑availability data centres. Proven technical knowledge and experience with mechanical and electro‑technical systems such as HVAC, power distribution, generators, UPS systems and fire suppression systems. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of data centre infrastructure, including servers, storage systems and network devices. Proficient in equipment installation, configuration and maintenance with knowledge of cabling standards and cable management best practices. Familiarity with environmental monitoring and power distribution systems. Experience with Dell/HPE server and storage technologies and firmware. Strong troubleshooting skills to diagnose, resolve or propose solutions to complex problems while exercising professional judgement for client service excellence. Excellent interpersonal, communication and time‑management skills, including conflict management and negotiation, and a proven approach to building successful collaborative relationships with a broad range of stakeholders in a high‑dependency environment.
