Our consultants are engaged in a variety of cutting-edge projects throughout Australia. About the Role Our Federal Government Client is seeking a User Experience Designer. This is a 12-month contract role with 2 *12-month extension, located at our client’s ACT in a hybrid set-up. Key Duties and Responsibilities Collaborate with stakeholders, including delivery managers, system analysts, and organisational change managers, to design user-centered interfaces for government systems and platforms. Conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing to gather insights and incorporate user feedback into design iterations. Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs that align with government policy requirements and accessibility standards (e.g. WCAG 2.1). Develop user journeys, personas, and experience maps to understand and improve user interactions with government services. Ensure all UI/UX designs align with government design standards, such as the Australian Government’s Digital Service Standard or similar frameworks in other jurisdictions. Work with developers to ensure seamless implementation of designs and maintain design integrity throughout the development process. Advocate for user-centered design principles while balancing business and policy requirements in government projects. Provide guidance on accessibility best practices and ensure compliance with legal standards for inclusivity. Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and tools within the team. Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) Category: Development and implementationSubcategory: User ExperienceSkills: User Experience Design (HCEV) & User Experience Analysis (UNAN)Level: 4/5 Technical Skills (1) Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience.(2) Relevant Bachelor’s degree and up-to-date certifications in UI/UX design (e.g. UX Design Professional, Certified Professional in Web Accessibility (CPWA) are highly desirable.(3) Coding skills.(4) An understanding of Australian Government frameworks. Essential Criteria Proven UI/UX Design Expertise. Accessibility knowledge. Collaboration and communication. Technical proficiency with design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, Axure RP and other recognised industry standard tools. Government policy and standards knowledge. Current active NV1 security clearance. Desirable Criteria Service Design expertise. Experience with large-scale government projects. Data-driven design. Experience with legacy systems.
