Join to apply for the Associate Director - Environmental Planner role at AECOM. We are seeking an experienced environmental approvals professional to lead the delivery of timely, high-quality environmental impact assessments, constraints analyses, strategic assessments, and environmental management plans. You will assist in organising resources, budgets, and timelines for project management. Team Overview You will lead the Environmental Impact Assessment Team for a 12‑month parental leave cover, providing an opportunity to shape and grow our team of 10+ assessors across renewable energy, transmission, transport (road/rail/ports/air), water, and industrial sectors. Responsibilities Manage day‑to‑day activities of team members to ensure adherence to AECOM’s policies and procedures. Contribute to staff wellbeing, retention and engagement. Support the Sydney Impact Assessment and Permitting Group Leader to deliver the financial year workgroup plan. Foster an engaged and motivated team of well‑qualified staff. Track and manage the team’s pipeline of opportunities. Qualifications & Experience A bachelor’s degree (postgraduate preferred) in environmental science, environmental planning, town planning or environmental engineering. Proven ability to lead the growth and development of teams and individuals. Strong communication, influencing and leadership skills. Drive to mentor junior and mid‑level staff in environmental planning and approvals. Proven ability to network and influence at peer levels. Industry recognition as a leader in the specialist discipline with established networks. Proven ability to develop new client relationships and expand existing ones through timely delivery, value for money and quality service. REAP Certification, or eligibility for REAP certification and current pursuit of certification. High technical competence in environmental planning and approvals, due diligence and land use planning. Firm grasp of key environmental issues related to renewables, transmission and transport infrastructure. Extensive experience leading and managing environmental assessment and EIS projects. Superior project management and delivery skills, including time management and organisational abilities. Extensive consulting experience with demonstrated technical, commercial and delivery acumen.
