About the Role The Karlup Service is a holistic, wraparound service model for women and children to heal and recover from family and domestic violence which will run from the Ruah Centre for Women and Children (RCWC) building, a state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility in the Perth CBD. The Karlup Service Peer Recovery Workers will use their Lived Experience of family and domestic violence in an intentional way and will walk alongside the clients they support in a way that empowers them to retain self-determination. Through intentional sharing, mutuality and collaboration with the clients they support, Peer Recovery Workers will foster human connection and hope and clients regain capacity and a sense of direction and control in their lives. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, Peer Recovery Workers will support clients on their recovery journey as they navigate services and work towards establishing an independent life for themselves and their children. This is a permanent full time role working 38 hours per week, between the hours of 8am - 5pm Monday to Friday. Please note that this position is only available for employees who identify as female, due to the inherent requirements of the role. This is a genuine occupational qualification in accordance with Section 27 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984. What we’re looking for The successful applicants will be required to meet the following criteria: Essential A Lived or Living Experience of recovery from family and domestic violence and related social factors such as mental health challenges, alcohol and other drug issues, and a demonstrated professional understanding of how to use this experience to inform work as a Peer. Experience working in a similar or community work setting. A demonstrated understanding of Trauma Informed Practice principles and ability to implement this in day-to-day practice. Desirable: Completion of certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (minimum of 75% completed) or completion of Peer Skillset at TAFE. Knowledge and understanding of diversity, gender and social inclusion, particularly Aboriginal culture What do we offer? A salary aligned with Level 4 of Ruah’s Enterprise Agreement (& SCHADS Award), starting at $88,372 5 weeks annual leave + 17.5% annual leave loading. 16 weeks paid parental leave, with flexibility to take at 32 weeks half-pay (uniquely, new staff can access 4 weeks paid parental leave after just 6 months’ service).
