About the Team Joining the Development team at ARTC means being part of a dynamic group focused on growing the business and enhancing our overall commercial performance. You’ll be part of shaping the future of our business by building demand for freight on rail – not only to help Australia achieve its Net Zero targets but also contributing to safer roads and a more cost-effective mode of transport. At ARTC, we exist to keep Australia moving and the Development team plays a pivotal role in building the case for rail as a sustainable and efficient transport solution for our nation. About the Opportunity Reporting to the Group Executive Development, The General Manager CorporateAffairs provides enterprise-wide leadership across ARTC’s corporate affairs functions, including reputation management, government relations, partnerships, media, community engagement, stakeholder relations, and ministerial support. The role is responsible for setting ARTC’s long-term strategic direction for reputation, political positioning, government engagement, partnerships, and external influence, while ensuring high-quality operational delivery of media management, stakeholder engagement, community liaison, and ministerial services. This position ensures a cohesive, enterprise-aligned approach to strategy, governance, standards, capability development, and operational execution across all Corporate Affairs activities. Key accountabilities include : Lead ARTC’s enterprise Corporate Affairs strategy, set national engagement priorities, shape the organisation’s narrative and guide strategic issues management. Drive ARTC’s government relations and ministerial positioning while maintaining senior government relationships and providing political, policy and reputational advice. Identify, develop and manage strategic partnerships across government, industry and community to deliver measurable organisational value. Establish organisation-wide standards and KPIs for engagement and media, ensure high-quality ministerial and corporate materials, and oversee reputational risk governance. Lead media relations and reactive responses, maintain strong journalist relationships and oversee consistent external communications and campaigns. Oversee local stakeholder and community engagement activities, manage feedback and issue escalation, and support Executive engagements with high-quality briefing materials. Coordinate workflows across Corporate Affairs functions while maintaining operational reporting, dashboards and event logistics. Lead and develop a high-performing Corporate Affairs team, fostering a values-led, safe culture while managing budgets, workforce planning and resourcing. The ideal candidate will demonstrate : Tertiary qualifications in public policy, communications, media, government relations, public affairs, law or a related field. Extensive senior executive experience in corporate affairs, external or government relations. Proven ability to develop and deliver long-term strategies for reputation, government, stakeholder engagement and partnerships. Strong knowledge of federal and state political, regulatory and policy environments. Experience advising CEO, Executive and Board on strategic external issues. Track record in establishing and managing national-level enterprise partnerships. Strong governance and risk management skills, including oversight of ministerial and external engagement.
