Job Description Chief Engineer – Data Platforms Sydney or Melbourne location. Inspire and lead by example. High performance culture. As Chief Engineer – Data Platforms , you will define the technical vision, mentor high-performing teams, and deliver solutions that make a real impact, and play a pivotal role in enabling the vision of AI‑first mindset amongst engineers. What You Will Bring (skills & Capabilities) … Technology Strategy & Architecture Define and evolve enterprise data engineering roadmaps across Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, Informatica, and Teradata. Champion modern data stack tools (DBT, Airflow, Kafka, Delta Lake) and DevSecOps automation. Establish reference architectures, reusable blueprints, and best practices for ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption layers. Ensure architectural integrity across domains – batch, streaming, real‑time, and ML/AI workloads. Engineering Excellence Embed quality, reliability, performance, observability, and cost efficiency. Drive coding standards, CI/CD templates, and data quality frameworks. Delivery Leadership Guide engineering squads building pipelines, data products, feature stores, Machine Learning and AI workloads. Translate business needs into scalable designs and enforce reusable, automated patterns. Stakeholder Engagement Communicate complex technical concepts in clear, business‑friendly language. Build trusted relationships across senior leadership and delivery teams. Talent Development Mentor engineers and tech leads, foster craftsmanship and continuous learning. Lead communities of practice, hackathons, and innovation challenges. Risk & Governance Ensure data engineering practices align with internal risk frameworks (Data Governance, InfoSec, BC/DR).
