Financial Investigator

This is a rare opportunity to play an integral role in law enforcement in a team of financial investigators, providing significant challenges beyond what you might find in top tier accounting firms or other corporate or government organisations. Your independent accounting knowledge, skills and abilities may be just what we're looking for in our efforts to counter criminal networks. This position is offered as a six (6) month contract / secondment opportunity with the possibility of extension / permanency. POSITION OBJECTIVE This position undertakes financial analysis and investigations on organisations, businesses and individuals to identify, track, trace and document financial transactions associated with potential criminal activity. It undertakes analysis of financial evidence and produces reports to assist criminal or civil proceedings and appears as a witness in court. It also undertakes components of larger, more complex investigations undertaken by senior financial investigators. Applicants are asked to address the following nominated work-related requirements in no more than two (2) pages: Forensic accounting skills – Undertaking audits or financial investigations to identify individuals engaging in criminal activity and presenting as a witness in court. Providing professional knowledge and skills in forensic accounting to guide police investigations and assisting financial investigators. Analytical and conceptual skills – Analysing financial transactions and records of individuals, organisations and business structures and entities, summarising findings and clearly articulating and presenting to others. Analysing AUSTRAC reports, bank statements or other intelligence or information. Applicants are also required to submit a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV). Your CV should provide enough detail (dot points are sufficient) to allow the selection panel to assess your skills, experience and qualifications relevant to the Key Accountabilities of the attached Position Description Form. The CV must also include the names and contact details of two (2) referees who can comment on the applicant's ability to satisfy all of the Essential Work Related Requirements. Applicants should nominate at least one immediate (most contemporary) supervisor / manager unless exceptional circumstances exist. OTHER CONDITIONS Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies throughout the metropolitan area. In addition to this, should the successful applicant or vacate the advertised position, then the panel may select another suitable applicant from this selection process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the initial date of the appointment. Integrity and criminal checks will be conducted if the recommended applicant for a position is not a current WA Police Force employee.
