AMRRIC is seeking a skilled small-animal veterinarian with proven remote veterinary experience for a 6-month, field-based role delivering animal health programs across northern Australia. You’ll work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and provide senior clinical leadership in remote settings. Expect extensive 4WD travel, light aircraft travel and extended stays in remote communities throughout the dry season. If you’re an experienced remote vet looking for meaningful, community-led work, this role offers a rare and rewarding opportunity. What You’ll Do Lead delivery of desexing and animal health clinics in remote communities, including surgery, anaesthesia and preventative care. Provide clinical leadership in the field — mentoring vets, vet nurses and volunteers. Ensure culturally safe, community-led program delivery aligned with local priorities. Travel extensively across northern Australia (including 4WD travel) and participate in multi-day to multi-week remote field trips. Coordinate trip planning, logistics and equipment with AMRRIC’s program team. Maintain high standards of WHS, animal welfare and clinical practice in remote settings. Complete all clinical notes, trip reports and data capture requirements. What You’ll Bring Current veterinary registration recognised in the NT. Minimum 4-5 years’ experience in clinical practice, with strong surgical skills (flank spey experience highly regarded). Confidence working independently in dynamic, resource-limited field environments. Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Experience in, or a strong interest in, remote/outreach/community veterinary work. Certified 4WD training and ability to drive a manual vehicle for remote/off-road conditions. Practical, calm, organised and solutions-focused, with strong teamwork and leadership skills. Able to be based in Darwin for the duration of the contract and travel regularly to remote communities.
