The primary purpose of this role is to manage the tax compliance and advisory services for Australia and ensure the delivery of a professional, effective and responsive tax service. As the role will be part of the Australian/New Zealand tax team, exposure to the New Zealand business and New Zealand tax will also occur. Responsibilities Supporting Australian tax compliance obligations Tax advisory across the business Review and assessment of tax legislation changes Managing tax risks Second line of defence tax risk reviews across the entity Represent tax in internal and external forums Responsibility for ensuring operational tax compliance. Responsibility for managing tax compliance, tax accounting and audit activities. Tax compliance includes involvement in preparation of income tax returns and tax provisioning, and includes, but not limited to, exposure to taxes such as indirect tax, transfer pricing, employment taxes etc. Provide tax advice to all levels of Australian management and business units on all business taxation issues – as well as Australian tax advice to Group members worldwide on cross border transactions involving Australia. Tax advice includes, but is not limited to, business initiatives, corporate transactions, developments in tax laws etc. Support the Head of Tax with the implementation of tax strategies and policies to properly and effectively manage tax exposures and risks. Support with identifying areas of potential tax risks and drive improvements to processes, controls and/or systems where gaps are found. Day to day liaison with local stakeholders on tax issues, and escalating issues to Head of Tax where additional judgement is required. Support with influencing or lobbying external bodies, including the preparation of industry submissions and liaison with the Australian Taxation Office. Support with similar activities over the New Zealand business. Requirements A postgraduate qualification in Taxation (such as Master of Taxation) or professional qualification (e.g. CPA/CA) is favorable. Experience working for one of the big four professional service firms, or internal tax function of a large corporate is preferred. Subject matter expertise in tax, primarily in Australian and ideally with exposure to tax on international basis. A high level of professional competence which helps to advise the business on tax exposures and tax effective approach of business and operations. Understands and anticipates strategic implications from tax laws to the business. Communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to articulate complex tax matters to non-tax professionals. Ability to make robust decisions which may be contrary to the business wishes and ability to prioritise competing demands. Proactive approach to identifying tax opportunities and risks. Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
