Senior Legal Officer, Regulatory - 6 month contract Senior Legal Officer - Compliance, Canberra We are currently working with a prestigious agency and are looking for a Senior Legal Officer to join their legal team. You will provide legal advice across regulatory frameworks, compliance, and enforcement matters and statutory decision-making. Key Responsibilities Manage a small but varied caseload involving judicial review matters, class actions, and AAT proceedings. Oversee all stages of litigation, including reviewing submissions, preparing witness evidence, and coordinating discovery. Ensure compliance with government legal obligations and internal governance requirements. Work collaboratively with external law firms and other Commonwealth agencies involved in dispute resolution. Provide regular written and verbal briefings to internal stakeholders, senior executives, and ministerial offices. Manage subpoenas and related requests on behalf of the department. About you We are seeking an EL1-equivalent lawyer with at least 5 years’ post‑admission experience, preferably with APS and regulatory law exposure. The secondment runs to March/April 2026 and does require you to hold an AGSVA Baseline security clearance.
