Join Smiths Detection as a Field Service Engineer in Sydney, maintaining and repairing advanced X‑ray and trace detection equipment in high‑security environments. Your Role Key responsibilities include: Traveling to customer sites across metropolitan and regional/remote areas, including long‑distance driving, air travel, and overnight stays Troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing X‑ray and trace detection equipment on‑site and in service centres Performing preventative maintenance according to service contracts and schedules Responding to equipment faults and corrective maintenance requests per service contracts and KPIs Testing components and circuitry using multimeters, computers, and inbuilt equipment software Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and electronic faults involving 24 volts or less Replacing mechanical components such as belts, rollers, and motors Handling and replacing X‑ray sources and heavy parts using lifting aids Inspecting, cleaning, repairing, and replacing internal machine parts Assisting with new equipment installations alongside programs, installations teams, subcontractors, and customer stakeholders Completing field service documentation and reports Participating in technical, safety, compliance, and job‑related training both online and in‑person Maintaining a clean and tidy workstation and work environment Responding to queries from customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders verbally and in writing Managing spare parts consumption and updating IT tracking systems Attending regular team meetings and safety briefings Maintaining and calibrating tools and testing equipment Serving as the designated on‑call person per regional roster to provide remote and in‑person technical support Performing other duties as required About You The company is looking for: Certificate 3 Trade Qualification or Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, or IT fields Provisional or Unrestricted driver’s license Ability to obtain security clearances and industry licences Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Indicative experience of 0–2 years Compensation & Benefits Excellent training and career growth opportunities locally and globally Inclusive environment with strong leadership focus on safety and wellbeing Flexible benefits tailored to health, wellbeing, financial, and lifestyle support for employees and families Training & Development Opportunities include comprehensive training programmes and ongoing development to build knowledge and experience in state‑of‑the‑art security and detection solutions.
