Senior Investigator $ per annum 12% superannuation Full time fixed term opportunity until 30 / 06 / 2026 Geelong or Melbourne based role (hybrid 3 days a week in office) About the opportunity The Senior Investigator has a vital role in conducting complex investigations into alleged contraventions of workers compensation legislation by individuals or companies which may lead to criminal prosecution with the requirement to act as an informant in court and attend court as a witness. The complexity in individual cases and the forum within which the Senior Investigator will be working may change from case to case. All cases require forensic skills and analysis within the scrutiny of a criminal justice setting. The Senior Investigator also conduct initial assessment and evaluation of allegations and make recommendations on appropriate actions at key decision-making points in the investigative process and often need to make decisions under pressure that may impact on the reputation of WorkSafe. The Senior Investigator provides developmental support to Investigators through coaching and mentoring. This may include supporting the planning undertaking of investigations and building strategies to overcome difficult issues. Key accountabilities Plan and conduct complex investigations in accordance with WorkSafe policy and procedure and relevant legislation (including making strategic decisions about the use of sequencing of evidence seizing and statement gathering). Conduct initial assessment of allegations make recommendations on appropriate actions at key decision making points in the investigative process. Conduct investigations in a timely manner and in accordance with divisional performance measures; complete all files reports and documentation and collect and manage evidence including exhibits and documents in line with WorkSafe policy audit and statutory requirements. Make accurate and timely enforcement and operational recommendations to Team Leaders and Senior Management. Work with other specialists (legal or investigative) to develop and implement strategies to ensure cases reach satisfactory resolution. Act as an informant in court and appear in court as a witness. Develop tactical approaches to complex cases legal adversity or those where there is a challenge to an investigation. Provide coaching and developmental support to Investigators through identifying individual development needs and providing appropriate coaching including supporting the planning and undertaking of investigations. Identify opportunities make recommendations and implement improvements to processes systems and work practices including participating in relevant projects and forums. Participate in opportunities to develop and refresh investigative skills and seek out opportunities for professional development. Provide investigative advice and information to internal stakeholders and other business units in relation to compensation legislation and related operational matters. About you You are a professional investigator with a minimum of 5 years experience conducting complex fraud investigations. Your organisation communication and stakeholder engagement skills are highly developed. You are a resilient person who adapts to change and can respond calmly and professionally in challenging situations. Additionally you will possess the following skills and experience : Demonstrated experience in conducting complex fraud investigations within a criminal justice setting through harnessing intelligence case and project management interpreting statutory obligations evidence gathering and problem solving. Demonstrated experience achieving successful compliance and enforcement outcomes and knowledge of court and prosecution processes within a criminal justice setting. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team including the mentoring and coaching of team members. Demonstrated advanced oral and written communication skills with a proven record of producing repots and briefs of evidence in relation to complex fraud matters. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships provide influence in complex situations and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders to achieve key compliance outcomes. Personal resilience and adaptability to change and an ability to respond calmly and professionally in difficult situations with a focus on continuous improvement. Demonstrated time management prioritisation and organisational skills and an ability to meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp new information technology systems and databases and rapidly acquire knowledge of relevant legislation. Must hold a current Victorian drivers licence and have the ability to travel through Melbourne and regional Victoria as required. Minimum of Certificate IV in Government Investigations.
