Program Director – Paediatric Palliative Care and Hospice Service HSO Level G10 $158,564 - $167,547 per annum Help shape a landmark statewide service that supports children and young people with life-limiting conditions. This role is based at the Sandcastles (Boodja Mia) WA Children’s Hospice, with regular presence at Perth Children's Hospital according to operational needs. About the Role The Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) is seeking a senior leader with a strong commitment to service excellence and family-centred care to join our Paediatric Palliative Care and Hospice Service (PPC & HSS) team as Program Director . This is a rare and significant opportunity to provide strategic leadership to: Provide strategic and program leadership and lead the transition to and expansion of a new, integrated statewide specialist service model for paediatric palliative care and hospice services. Strengthen and integrate existing specialist palliative care services operating across CAHS. Support the establishment and opening of Western Australia’s first purpose-built paediatric hospice facility Sandcastles Children’s Hospice (Boodja Mia). Working in close partnership with the Head of Department you will guide the development of a contemporary, evidence-based models of care informed by national and international benchmarks while supporting innovation, research, collaboration and continuous improvement across the service. With a strong focus on equity of access for regional families, you will also provide statewide oversight of paediatric palliative care delivery, including integration between hospital, community and hospice care, and collaboration with local teams to enable children to live as well as possible, and closer to home where appropriate. Your ability to develop strong and effective relationships with stakeholders across health services, government, philanthropic, community and external partners will be key to success in this role. Key Responsibilities Partnering with the Head of Department to provide strategic direction and operational oversight for the Paediatric Palliative Care and Hospice Service, ensuring alignment with CAHS priorities, state and national health objectives. Developing and implementing clinical frameworks, governance systems, and risk management strategies to deliver safe, sustainable, and high-quality services. Leading budget management, performance monitoring, and service planning, including identification of innovative models of care and preparation of complex business cases. Building partnerships and representing CAHS on whole-of-health, government and cross-sector committees and forums to strengthen systems of care, drive collaboration, continuous improvement, and system-wide service enhancements. Leading the alignment of hospice and specialist palliative care services across hospital, community and statewide settings. Supporting public relations functions, including ministerial correspondence and enquiries. About the Sandcastles (Boodja Mia) Children’s Hospice Due to commence operations mid 2026, this purpose-built, world-class paediatric hospice, located on the Western Australian coast, offers statewide specialist paediatric palliative care services for children and young people (0–18 years) who are living with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and their families. This state-of-the-art, 7-bed facility will be the first of its kind in Western Australia, providing specialised palliative care for children living with life limiting conditions aged from birth to 18 years within a peaceful, home-like setting that prioritises comfort, dignity and connection.
