The successful candidate will report to the Leading Hand Mechanic and support scheduled maintenance and repair works for the Council’s light and heavy fleet and plant infrastructure. Responsibilities include maintaining mobile and fixed plant equipment, fault finding and diagnostics, and working to prevent unexpected breakdowns. Responsibilities Provide input into and undertake planned and reactive maintenance to approved plant and fleet specifications Respond in a timely manner and investigate causes of breakdowns, resolve problems Conduct plant and fleet inspections, fault finding and installations Proactively participate in operational meetings and training programs Ensure all workshop equipment is maintained in good working order and is tested/certified at required intervals Repair and maintain a wide range of vehicles in a variety of locations Conduct both planned and reactive maintenance within Council’s WHS procedures, adopting SWMS and risk assessments Qualifications Trade certificate and licence in Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology RMS safety check qualifications (ASCIS examiner) Minimum 2 years experience in mechanical maintenance, repair and problem‑solving Working knowledge of mechanical workshop activities (lathe, machining, oxy‑cutting, welding, etc.) Well‑developed analytical skills and an innovative, flexible approach to fault finding and maintenance Strong communication skills to liaise with Council staff, contractors and suppliers Availability for an “on‑call” roster for out‑of‑hours mechanical breakdowns as required NSW Class Medium Rigid (MR) Driver’s Licence Demonstrated understanding of Work Health & Safety Commitment to the principles of honesty and integrity Ideal Candidate NSW Class Heavy Rigid (HR) Driver’s Licence RMS safety check qualifications (HVAIS examiner) Previous local government experience working in a mechanical workshop Basic computer skills (email, Microsoft Office, and related systems) Salary and Benefits Between $1,273.24 and $1,447.91 per week (inclusive of market premium allowance) Permanent full‑time position 38 hours per week Ongoing learning and development opportunities Work/life balance with a rostered day off every second week APPLICATIONS CLOSE ON Monday 19 January 2026 at 4pm AEST.
